Non - Linear Data Analysis in Solar Radio Astronomy
نویسنده
چکیده
We have discussed some tools from nonlinear dynamics which may help to analyze transient phenomena, such as solar bursts. The structure function known from turbulence theory is an appropriate method to nd out some scaling behavior of uctuations in time. More generally, the wavelet analysis, which is some generalization of the power spectrum, exhibits information on the location as well as the size of hidden characteristic features. Applying both techniques to microwave bursts, we have found some scaling properties that refer to the existence of hierarchic time structures. This is in good accordance with the electric circuit model for describing the are-particle energization process.

Amateur Radio Astronomy
After a brief introduction on the theoretical and technical principles of radioastronomy, the author proposes to link the concepts of the discipline with the activity of amateur research. They will discuss some areas of work truly accessible to amateur experimenters, and the possible outcomes within the description of feasible projects, together with the analysis of the equipment and the necess...
متن کاملW.n. Christiansen and the Development of the Solar Grating Array
By 1950 the C.S.I.R.O’s Division of Radiophysics was emerging as a leader in solar radio astronomy. Early observations at radio frequencies were hampered by a lack of angular resolution. In seeking a method to produce regular high-resolution observations W.N. Christiansen devised the solar grating array. This unique instrument was constructed on the banks of the Potts Hill water supply reservoi...
متن کاملJa n 20 04 Spectrum of Solar Type I Continuum Noise Storm in the 50 - 80 MHz band , and Plasma characteristics in the associated source region
Continuum observations of a solar noise storm in the frequency range of 50 80 MHz observed with the Gauribidanur radio spectrograph during 2000 September, 26 & 27, are presented here. The radio spectral index of the noise storm continuum in the band 50 80 MHz is found to be ≈ 3.65 during the above period. The Noise Storm continuum radiation is explained as a consequence of the non-thermal, plas...
متن کاملThe Australian Solar Eclipse Expeditions of 1947 and 1949
On 1 November 1948 the Radio Astronomy Group within the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s Division of Radiophysics observed a partial solar eclipse on a range of radio frequencies at three different sites within Australia. These observations helped establish Australia’s reputation as a leader in solar radio astronomy. A second partial eclipse occurred on 22 October ...
